RAD Unveils New Carrier-Class Multiservice Solutions at Nigeria Com 2010

Optimized for Ethernet Extension over Fiber and Wireless and Legacy Service Migration over Ethernet/MPLS

At Nigeria Com 2010, to be held in Lagos 28-29 September RAD Data Communications, the award winning vendor of telecommunications access equipment, will introduce new fibre optic, wireless and multiservice solutions for TDM and Ethernet to the African market.

The new products are designed to extend high bit rate Ethernet services – as well as TDM – over fibre for distances up to 110 kilometers (68 miles) and up to 120 kilometers (75 miles) over sub-6GHz radio. In addition, RAD is introducing a new version of its powerful hybrid Megaplex-4100 multiservice access system, with advanced Gigabit Ethernet transmission features and support for STM-4 data rates.

“The demand for high performance, resilient network access is growing in West Africa, accelerated by the widespread deployment of fibre optic cable and businesses insatiable appetite for Ethernet services,” explains Issar Krausz, RAD sales director for West Africa. “These new product solutions from RAD enable fixed line service providers and mobile operators to expand their service footprint and better compete for value added business services. For utilities and transportation networks, this gives them an opportunity to upgrade their communications connections more easily to higher data rates and to benefit from a step-by-step migration to lower cost-per-bit packet-based transmission networks.”

New Products at Nigeria Com

  • Optimux-134, a 16-channel E1 and Ethernet fibre optic multiplexer, provides a simple and cost-effective solution for transporting multiple E1 links, as well as high speed data and Ethernet, for distances up to 110 kilometers (68 miles). The Optimux is specifically designed to address the needs of carriers and service providers, mobile operators and large enterprise applications.
  • Airmux-400 carrier-class broadband wireless radio delivers native Ethernet and TDM services over a single wireless links in various sub-6GHz frequencies, which are licence-free in most countries. The high-capacity Airmux-400 radio system provides net throughput of up to 100 Mbps and a range of up to 120 km (75 miles). Its advanced features, optimal performance and unmatched robustness are appropriate for all environments, making it ideal for mobile, WiMAX and ISP backhaul, broadband access and private networks
  • Megaplex-4100 will now offer two STM-4 and two Gigabit Ethernet ports, turning it into an ideal solution for carriers, as well as public utilities and transportation networks, which are increasingly being called upon to integrate Ethernet-based applications at their substations.

Particularly Relevant for African Carriers

The carrier class Megaplex-4100 supports all legacy services because it preserves the E1 clock from end-to-end. This allows carriers to maintain their profitable legacy services as they migrate to packet switched networks, an advantage in the African market. All RAD customer premises equipment devices can be interconnected via the Megaplex-4100, so that all types of services can be supported, whether they are transported over fibre, copper or DSL. “This provides customers with the best of all worlds,” Krausz concludes, “because it allows end users to switch between one type of service and another.”
