RAD Unveils Combo TDM and EFM VDSL2 Network Termination Unit at Broadband World Forum Europe

At Broadband World Forum Europe 2010, which will be held in Paris October 26-28, RAD Data Communications will premiere a solution that provides broadband access for E1/T1 and Carrier Ethernet services over SHDSL.bis and high capacity VDSL2 lines.

Working opposite next-generation IP DSLAMs and MSAPs (multiservice access platforms), RAD’s LA-210 Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) DSL Network Termination Unit (NTU) is installed at customer premises to provide an ideal solution for carriers and service providers wishing to take advantage of growing FTTx deployments to deliver EPL and EVPL Carrier Ethernet services to enterprises. Supporting access rates of up to 100 Mbps downstream and 50 Mbps upstream, the LA-210 also features advanced service management capabilities, including hierarchical quality of service (QoS), end-to-end Ethernet OAM and service level agreements (SLA) performance monitoring.

CapEx and OpEx Reduction with Seamless Migration to NGN

Along with its state-of-the-art Carrier Ethernet capabilities, the LA-210 also delivers legacy TDM services over packet transport, using standards-based pseudowire emulation – a technology pioneered by RAD. The LA-210 is enhanced with SAToP and CESoPSN pseudowire emulation features, as well as with highly accurate clock recovery mechanisms over DSL connections (NTR- Network Timing Reference). “With its new pseudowire capabilities, the LA-210 is ideal for operators because it allows them to migrate their legacy services, such as PBX connectivity, from expensive and obsolete leased lines to packet switched networks,” notes Ami Barayev, RAD’s LA-210 Product Line Manager. “This solution will significantly reduce their OpEx on infrastructure, while supplying the deterministic service quality that is required for real-time applications,” he continues.” Such multi-generation support in a single device also spells out lower CapEx, which make the transition to NGN communications easier and cost-effective.”
