Scalable solution connects radar sites to ATC centers

Mission Critical Voice and Data over E1/T1 and Wireless Links

Typical Users

  • Airport authorities

Typical Applications

  • Connecting radar sites to air traffic control centers

For air traffic controllers, nothing can be as critical as maintaining constant contact with
the airport's radar sites. That may be harder than it first seems. In addition to radar itself,
the sites will include telephones, radios and mission-critical monitoring data, all of which
have to be connected to the main air traffic control (ATC) center.

RAD Data Communications offers a complete yet simple and scalable solution for
connecting all available interfaces using the Megaplex-2100 multiservice access multiplexer,
which can be deployed at radar sites to concentrate traffic from multiple sources over an
E1/T1 line. From there the traffic can be transported to the ATC center either over fiber or a
wireless link using RAD’s Airmux-400 broadband wireless multiplexer. Both alternatives can
be used simultaneously to ensure redundancy in the event of a network failure.

The Megaplex-2100 is a single-box solution that grooms, aggregates and transports
multiple broadband and narrowband data and voice services over copper, DSL, fiber,
wireless, or satellite circuits. It is especially suitable for use as an economical, compact
remote distribution node for providing mixed data and voice services for air transport
facilities

High-Capacity Modular Chassis

The modular Megaplex-2104 supports dedicated data, digital and analog voice, ISDN,
video, and LAN services over n x 64 kbps, single or dual E1/T1, DSL, or Ethernet uplinks.
Supporting an optional Ethernet main link and incorporating pseudowire circuit-emulation
technology, the Megaplex-2100 also enables TDM transport (40 E1, 50 T1) over a
100 Mbps fiber ring or daisy-chain topology with under 50 ms restoration capabilities. The
Megaplex-2100 comes in a 4U-high chassis with slots for up to 12 modules.

Benefits

Scalable, modular solution

Accommodates all network interfaces

Transports over E1/T1 or wireless links

Ensures redundancy

Pseudowire-enabled

Supports legacy services over Ethernet

Compact devices

Low power consumption

Finally, RAD's carrier-class Airmux-400 broadband wireless multiplexer delivers native Ethernet and TDM services over a single wireless link in various sub-6GHz frequencies, which, in many countries, are license-free. With a flexible combination of Ethernet and up to 16 E1/T1 interfaces, the high-capacity Airmux-400 radio system provides net throughput of up to 100 Mbps and a range of up to 120 km (75 miles). The Airmux-400 incorporates advanced features, such as MIMO and OFDM for optimal performance and unmatched robustness in all environments.

All devices are compact and require low power consumption.
